It was Steven Clegg that led the field to the green flag as the pole sitter and he initially took the lead with Breuning, who started quicker than Peterson from the 2nd row, on his tail. The first 12 laps were calm, but then the first and only yellow of the day came out after a net code incident. Breuning pitted as one of the few cars up front and it turned out a helpful move, as the 2nd pitstop (the first for most) was under green. With Breuning needing less fuel than the others, he found himself leading Smithem by 4 seconds. Smithem short fueled but shot himself in the foot as he ran out on the last corner and handed 2nd to Larry Eaglen!
