JOHNNY HAMBY WINS THE SEASON 2 CHAMPIONSHIP!

Theo Schleret has already made his mark as a newcomer in the Retro CART League and proved to be the man to beat again in Laguna Seca. But the race was really about the Season 2 championship. Breuning had an 11 point lead coming in, meaning that finishing 4th or better would secure his 2nd title. Hamby qualified on pole, led the most laps and looked good for the win. Breuning followed him in 2nd and had no need for trying to pass. Then the pitstop, where he was caught speeding. He had to come in again but after the penalty, he was still 3rd.

The championship was well within reach until Chris Brown spun coming out of the final turn on lap 27. Breuning came around the concrete wall and the moment he decided to go to the right, Brown reversed to clear the track. The damage to the #61 was too much to carry on.

Hamby was free and clear and Schleret gaining on him was not a problem; Approaching the corkscrew they touched, but luckily Hamby was able to finish the race in 2nd and therefor takes home the Season 2 Championship!

Congratulations Johnny Hamby!

Thanks to TURN3 and Dave Worrell for the exciting broadcasts. Thanks to iSplash for coming on board as the series Sponsor, offering iRacing credits to the championship winner.

Thanks all drivers for coming out and helping to grow the league!

Theo Schleret entered his first Retro CART League event as a dominating force; The French driver took the pole, lead the most laps and won the race by a 25 second margin over Rick Ravon, Zach Millett and Johnny Hamby.

Breuning and Smithem came together in turn one on lap 4, ending both their races. That means that the championship battle between Breuning and Hamby has narrowed to 11 points and these two drivers will be deciding who brings home the hardware in Laguna Seca next week!

Breuning Wins at New Hampshire

Loudon, New Hampshire, turned out to be a tricky 1 miler for some of the drivers. Especially turn two caught a few of them out. First victim was pole sitter Wade Tschida when he was running 2nd, unfortunately collecting Chris Hamelink who was running strong. Then Austin Dabbs brushed the wall and spun while battling Darren Fahey for the lead. Fahey became the latest victim while leading, handing the race to Breuning who scored his 2nd win of the season.

HAMBY’S REDEMPTION!

Johnny Hamby took the pole and led the most laps to win the Mid-Ohio race tonight, ahead of a hard charging Rick Ravon and Marc Breuning. After missing the Pocono race and his unfortunate DNF at Road America, Hamby was happy to score maximum points in his bid for the championship. Currently, Breuning is leading with 103 and Hamelink is second with 92 – notably scoring points in all 8 races but without a win – and Hamby is in third now with 88.

Season 3 Schedule

Racers and fans of the Retro CART League: We are already well into Season 2 and I have every intention of continuing the League. Season 3 proposed schedule is here. With no holidays or other reasons to not race, I have extended the schedule to the full 12 races paralel to iRacing 2023 S2 schedule with a NEW venue: The oval of Miami, where CART raced first in 1996. Although back then it was a 4 turn smaller replica of the IMS, the track was updated to its current shape soon after.

Since the schedule would call for an extra oval race, I figured Miami would be a great final oval race for season 3. Other than that, the schedule is largely the same.
