Starting from the pole, Mike Erter didn’t have it easy all the time up front, but he managed to stay in control of his pursuers, with Breuning just 0.075 behind him at the finish and Don Warren right there in 3rd despite brushing the wall earlier in the race. The lucky dog rule got him right back in contention. Roland Olsen was 4th, sticking with the leaders for the second part of the race in one of his best performances to date, but not finding a way to challenge them. Steven Kiefer rounded out the top 5.

Pole sitter David Cooke took the lead right away, but initially Breuning stuck with him and they swapped positions a few times. Avoiding a spinning car, Breuning dropped back to the group of pursuers and never caught back up. When the group he was in was headed to the pits, Erter, Breuning and Smithem got collected in the mess that happened on entry. It was Don Warren that took 2nd ahead of Bill Smithem, who got away out of the mess unscathed. Steven Kiefer and Charles Harris rounded out the top 5.

George Sandman started the Detroit GP from the pole and led most of the way, with Cooke and Breuning following in basically the grid order; Breuning started dropping off quickly but maintained his position ahead of Rafael Rodrigues. Sandman pitted earliest of the leaders, but when it was all said and done, it was David Cooke leading Sandman. Cooke took the checkered 7 seconds ahead of Sandman, with Breuning 3rd, Rodrigues 4th and Mike Erter in 5th.

Pole sitter Mike Erter took the lead right off the bat, while front row starter Bill Smithem let Breuning sneak into 2nd. Breuning managed to pass for the lead as well, but the joy was short lived as Mike Erter commanded his way back to the front again. Late in the race, Breuning started losing ground on the leader and going wide in turn 3 made him lose 2nd to Don Warren as well. He had to settle for 3rd, ahead of Bill Smithem and Steven Kiefer.

Polesitter David Cooke in the #71 car took the lead and kept it for 77 laps, despite a mid race yellow bunching up the field. Neither Warren Rodgers nor Marc Breuning were able to threaten him. But on lap 77, a back marker bouncing off the wall ended the leader’s aspirations and made Warren Rodgers a lucky man, followed by Marc Breuning and Bill Smithem. Mike Erter and Steven Kiefer rounded out the top 5 in a race that only had 3 cautions, but the final one decided the outcome…
